2. Year 10 Careers Education at Al-Taqwa College

Our Year 10 Careers Education program at Al-Taqwa College supports learners in planning meaningful pathways toward broad career goals. As they build self-awareness and gain a deeper understanding of educational and training requirements, learners begin to shape their futures with a sense of purpose and direction.

An exciting component of the program is a dedicated week of work experience, where learners gain firsthand insights into various professions. This immersive experience allows them to apply their skills in real-world settings, explore different industries, and develop valuable connections.

Through this program, learners also investigate how national and global trends—such as economic shifts, social dynamics, technological advancements, and environmental changes—affect the types and availability of work. By examining these trends, they learn the value of adaptability and the role of networks in creating opportunities.

As part of their journey, learners develop a Career Action Plan, where they outline their preferred pathways and explore alternative scenarios to keep multiple options open. This foundation not only prepares them for their future careers but also empowers them to navigate an evolving world with confidence and resilience.

3. Year 11 Careers Education at Al-Taqwa College: Shaping Your Future

At Al-Taqwa College, our Year 11 Careers Education program focuses on helping learners confirm and manage their Career Action Plans as they solidify their goals for life after school. This program is designed to ensure that learners’ plans align with their current personal profiles, including skills, abilities, attitudes, and academic achievements, as they prepare for further education, training, or employment.

Throughout Year 11, learners have access to one-on-one interviews with our experienced careers advisors, where they receive tailored guidance on refining their post-school directions. Additionally, they participate in excursions to universities and TAFE institutions, gaining insight into various fields of study and professional pathways. Learners also attend Al-Taqwa’s large Careers Expo, where they can interact with representatives from a diverse range of industries, universities, and training organizations to explore multiple career options.

Using their Career Action Plans as a foundation, learners consolidate their self-knowledge and identify at least one potential career pathway. They are encouraged to recognize the skills and abilities they have gained through school, community involvement, volunteering, and paid work, understanding how these can be transferred to future roles. The program emphasizes critical reflection, encouraging learners to assess the strategies they have used, examine any setbacks, and celebrate their successes as they adjust their plans.

Learners also prepare a professional résumé that reflects their career journey, showcasing their understanding of the job market and their readiness to transition into further study, training, or work. With access to a range of online career resources and the support of mentors, learners build essential self-management skills for career planning, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate the dynamic world of work.
